Zimbabwe and Netherlands Qualify for T20 World Cup 2022, after six long years, Zimbabwe will play again in a T20 World Cup 2022. The last time Zimbabwe played in a World Cup in any format was in 2016. The team has crossed the hurdle of the T20 World Cup 2022 qualifiers to be held in Australia.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifiers for Group ‘B’ were held in Zimbabwe. At the end of the group stage, the hosts Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea, the Netherlands and the United States secured the semi-finals.
These four teams entered the field with the equation that they would be guaranteed to play in the World Cup if they could reach the semi-final stage. The hosts faced Papua New Guinea in the semi-finals. The other semi-final was between the Netherlands and the United States.
Zimbabwe scored 192 runs in the scheduled 20 overs against Papua New Guinea in Bulawayo on Friday (July 15). In reply, Papua New Guinea scored 172 runs by losing 8 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs with 66 runs by Tony Urra. The country’s dream of playing the World Cup was broken by losing the match.
In the other match, Netherlands beat USA by 7 wickets. Batting first, the US innings stopped at 138 runs with two balls left. In reply, the Netherlands won the match with 6 balls and 7 wickets remaining.
The two teams that reached the final, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands, confirmed the World Cup. Earlier in February this year, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates secured the World Cup from Group ‘A’ of the T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifiers.
