West Indies Cricket Board Appoints Nicholas Pooran as New Captain 2022
West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has announced his retirement from international cricket. That’s why the West Indies Cricket Board was looking for a new captain. Nicolas Pooran has been named the new West Indies ODI and T20 captain ahead of T20 World Cup 2022.
In a statement on Tuesday (May 3), the West Indies finalized the appointment of Nicholas Pooran as the new captain. Batter Shai Hope has been appointed as his assistant.
Nicolas Porran was appointed Kieron Pollard’s assistant in 2021. After Pollard’s removal, the captaincy was handed over to him. However, leading the West Indies is nothing new to Pooran. Earlier, Nicholas Pooran led the team in eight T20s and two ODIs. He also captained Australia in the 4-1 series defeat at home.
“I am really proud to be the captain of the West Indies team,” said Pooran. Being nominated as a captain is really the biggest achievement of my career so far. I want to take the team forward by doing something great on the field for our fans. ”
Nicholas Pooran made his international debut in 2016. The wicketkeeper-batsman has played 94 matches for the Caribbean so far. A total of 3,300 runs came from his bat. Shy Hope, who was appointed as his assistant, entered international cricket in 2015. So far he has played 36 Tests, 69 ODIs and 19 T20s for the Caribbean. At this time 5 thousand 6 runs came from his bat.
