ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Will Feature 20 Teams Divided into 4 Groups
West Indies and United States will jointly host the ninth edition of T20 World Cup in 2024. A total of 20 teams will participate in the T20 World Cup 2024 and will be divided into four groups. However, there will be no Super 12 stage in the event.
The ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024 to be held in the West Indies and the United States will have five teams in each group. The top two teams on the points table in each group will play in the Super Eights. That is, there will not be a Super Twelve phase like the T20 World Cup in 2021 or 2022.
The 8 teams that made it to the Super Eight will be divided into two groups. Four teams will play in each group. The top two teams in the points table in each group will qualify for the semi-finals. As usual, the two teams who win the two semis will play the final.
12 teams have already confirmed their place in the 20-team World Cup. The West Indies and the United States will play as hosts in that World Cup. And all of them will directly participate in the World Cup due to being in the top eight in the Super Twelve in the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup that ended this month.
The eight teams are – reigning champions England, runners-up Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Australia, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the Netherlands. Besides, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will also play directly in the next World Cup.
Although not among the top eight teams, Bangladesh and Afghanistan were among the top ten T20 rankings as per ICC rules till November 14. As a result, by playing the preliminary stage, he was saved from the trouble of playing in the main stage of the World Cup. Besides, the remaining eight countries will have to play the regional qualifiers to get a place in the World Cup.
