Sri Lanka Likely to Move Asia Cup 2022 to UAE

Amid economic and political problems, will the Asia Cup 2022 be held in Sri Lanka? Such questions are circulating all around. Meanwhile, an official of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has hinted that Sri Lanka likely to move Asia Cup 2022 to UAE.

The final of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 29). Sri Lankan cricket president Shammi Silva is in India at the invitation of The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to watch the match. There, Joy Shah, president of the Asian Cricket Council, will be offered to host the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. That is what an official of SLC said.

Recent political and economic problems have led to rumors that the Asia Cup will be held in Bangladesh instead of Sri Lanka. The SLC official said that Sri Lanka would be the host. The venue may be relocated from Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates.

Sri Lanka is keen to host the Indian subcontinent as there are many cricket fans in the UAE. He said the SLC would earn $5 million even if it hosted the tournament in the desert.

Regarding the organization in the UAE, the official said, “In this situation, the UAE is the best option for organizing the tournament. The matches will be held at three venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. ”

The Asia Cup 2022 is scheduled to be held from August 26 to September 11 this year. The Asia Cup will be played in the smallest version ahead of the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka has not hosted any other multinational tournament since the 2012 T20 World Cup. They are going to end that wait with the Asia Cup.

Australia and Pakistan are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka before the Asia Cup. Despite the country’s political and economic problems, no final decision has been made on whether they will visit.
