Sri Lanka Cricket Board is more Corrupt Than the Government
Sri Lanka is going through the worst situation since independence. Many are blaming the government for the economic and political crisis. However, former Sri Lankan cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga has termed the country’s cricket board as more corrupt than the Sri Lankan government.
Sri Lanka has not been successful in cricket for the last few years. They are currently seventh in the ICC Test rankings, eighth in the ODIs and ninth in the T20s. According to the rankings, the trend of success is absolutely downward. According to Ranatunga, the most corrupt body in Sri Lanka is the country’s cricket board. Such a miserable state of cricket in the country is due to corruption.
In 1998, Sri Lanka won the ODI World Cup for the first time. They have also won the T20 World Cup. The Lankans have also played in two consecutive ODI World Cup finals.
Sri Lanka was the biggest team in world cricket in the performance of Mahela Jayawardene, Kumara Sangakkara after winning the first ODI World Cup under the leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga. However, after their retirement, Sri Lankan cricket has been in disarray for the last few years. Ranatunga has pointed the finger at the country’s board for such a state of Sri Lankan cricket.
Speaking on the sidelines of a tour of India at the Olympic Building in Karnataka, Ranatunga said, “The whole point of Sri Lankan cricket is mismanagement and unprofessionalism. That is why there is a crisis in cricket in the country. The cricket board is the most corrupt body in the country. They are the most corrupt institution in the country.
“The country’s cricket board has ruined everything,” he added. There is no professional among those who are playing cricket. They are worse than the government. In cricket we have a lot of good players, but poorly managed. This is a big issue. If the time comes for cricket selection, you will see that there are 143-144 votes. All these are bribes. ‘
Ranatunga claims that those who have been playing cricket since 2015 have made everything random. He said, ‘Those who have been playing cricket since 2015, they have done everything randomly. At the moment we need a good sports minister. Whether or not you can work on those issues. But all the thieves in Sri Lanka took over the positions of the cricket board. This has happened in Sri Lanka in the past and will continue to happen in the future.
