The Asia Cup team announcements concluded on August 8 of this year. Twelve days after the original date, the team announced Sri Lanka Cricket as the host. The country’s sports ministry was hesitating to give the squad the go-ahead. Finally, after receiving approval, the team declared Sri Lanka as the Asia Cup host nation.

Sri Lanka appointed Dashun Shanaka as captain of their 20-man Asia Cup team. The lineup included top-order batsmen Bhanuka Rajapakse and Dinesh Chandimal. In addition, ‘Baby Malinga’ Mathisa Pathirana was given an opportunity on the Asia Cup team.

Typically, the team list for a bilateral series or event is submitted to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports before it is made public. Sri Lanka Cricket offers its final clearance after receiving the green light from there. Again, the Asia Cup team was provided to the Sports Ministry well in advance. However, the country’s sports government was reluctant to give the squad the go-ahead.

Sri Lanka was previously slated to host the Asia Cup. However, the competition was relocated to the United Arab Emirates owing to political upheaval and a lack of critical goods in the host nation. However, Sri Lanka will serve as host

The Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports believes that Sri Lanka Cricket has not done its utmost to secure the Asian Cup for Sri Lanka. Even a member of the opposition has blasted the cricket board in public. The Sri Lankan Sports Ministry believes the country’s prestige has been damaged because Australia and Pakistan hosted the series but were unable to win the Asia Cup.

The sports ministry of the country was delaying the approval of Sri Lanka Cricket’s proposed team primarily for these reasons. Finally, the ice has thawed, and the Asia Cup team has been approved. Likewise, the Sri Lankan squad was permitted to go to Dubai.

In order to compete in the Asia Cup 2022 for his country, Wanindu Hasaranga had to terminate his £100,000 contract with Manchester Originals after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) denied him a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in the Hundred.

Sri Lanka’s cricket team is the second most successful in the tournament, behind only India. Not only have they played in all 13 tournaments, but India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have only played in 12. Sri Lanka last won a world cup in 2014, when they triumphed over Pakistan in the final.

Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. On Saturday, August 27th, the team will launch their title campaign. Both of their games will take place in Dubai. On September 1, 2022, Sri Lanka will play Afghanistan in the tournament opener.
