Shaheen Shah Afridi Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2022 Due to Knee Injury
Prior to the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the Pakistan cricket squad received devastating news. The team’s finest pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has been ruled out of the 15th Asia Cup 2022 owing to a ligament damage in his right knee. Not only will he be unable to participate in the Asia Cup, but also in the seven-match T20 home series against England.
On Saturday (20 August), the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) top medical officer, Dr. Citing Najibullah Sumro, this information has been disseminated in a circular. According to reports, Shaheen Shah Afridi may miss four to six weeks owing to injury.
Last month, Shaheen Shah Afridi sustained a knee injury while fielding in the first Test in Sri Lanka. Consequently, he was unable to participate in the second and final Test of the series. Afridi has been advised by the medical advisory committee to rest for four to six weeks after a recent scan and report.
Sumro stated in his statement, ‘I have spoken with Afridi, and he is saddened by the news. He is, nevertheless, a youthful player. Will return stronger and represent the nation and squad,’ He said, “He has already made progress in rehabilitation.” Now that this is known, recovery will take longer, and he will likely be able to return to competitive cricket in October.’
Afridi will remain with the team until his rehabilitation is complete. Pakistan will name Afridi’s successor for the Asia Cup shortly. Currently, the Pakistan cricket team is touring the Netherlands. Babar Azmara will travel from Rotterdam to Dubai on Monday for the Asia Cup.
Before this, it is anticipated that Afridi’s successor would be added to the team. Pakistan will begin their Asia Cup encounter against archrival India on August 28.
