SL vs AUS 2022: Praveen Jayawickrama Tests Corona Positive
Before the second match of the test series between AUS vs SL 2022, there was a big shock in the Sri Lankan camp, Spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been dropped from the team as he tests corona positive.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the matter in a statement on Monday (July 4th). The statement said, “If he feels ill, he (Jayawickrama ) is tested for corona and the result is positive. Jayawickrama was immediately sent in isolation. He will be in isolation for the next five days. ”
Sri Lanka have been knocked out in the first match of the ongoing Test series against visiting Australia. After losing by 10 wickets in just three days, the hosts are already behind in the series.
After that, the Sri Lankan team lost one of the best spinners of the team and played a bigger push. Earlier, Angela Mathews, an experienced batsman, was positive during the first Test. The Sri Lankan team management is hoping that he will recover before the second Test.
So far, Jayawickrama has played five Tests for Sri Lanka. He took 25 wickets at this time. Sri Lanka will face Australia in the second Test in Galle on Friday (July 8). The hosts will have to win the second match to save the series after losing the first match.
Australia have fielded three spinners for the second Test, none of whom have played Tests before. Mahesh Thaksana, Dunith Wilge and Laxmita Mansingh are almost certain to make their debuts against Australia.
Among them, Dunith played in the ODI series against Australia. He was the highest wicket taker in the series with 9 wickets. He has played 11 first-class matches, taking 34 wickets.
